Gordon Browns government accused of complacency over Icelandic Banks

BBC: UK 'ignored Iceland bank warning'

Gordon Browns government has been accused of "complacency" after it apparently ignored warnings in July that Icelandic banks were facing collapse as Lib Dem peer Lord Oakeshott and Tory MP Michael Fallon both raised the issue with ministers on separate occasions.

Evening Standard yesterday had the blurb: "Brown at war with City", they failed to add "Against the British People".

To be honest, I didn't pay too much attention to the warnings about Iceland - it didn't seem to chime with the fact that most of Iceland's most visible wealth is actually cash deposits, unlike UK retail banks which are esentially gambling houses.

This is why I don't think we should fully trust what we are hearing about Iceland's economy from the UK government or UK media.

Its off topic, but we have *got* to meet up, as many as possible of us!

I had an incredible chat about the economy for half an hour earlier with a work colleague, just the though of sitting in a pub or suchlike with you guy s who have made plenty of evenings quite entertaining and educational for me for so long would be a real treat!
